GALLERY: Construction complete on Bayer Plant Science Building northeast tower
By: Norman Martin
Months of prolific pounding and concrete pouring ended earlier this summer with the completion of a new two-story tower going up just outside Texas Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources Dean's Office on the northeast corner of the Goddard building. The project, which began last September, completes the exterior enhancement of CASNR's new Bayer Plant Science Building and visually ties the new and old buildings together. The tower was built by Vaughn Construction.
Last year CASNR marked the official opening of the main Bayer Plant Science Building. The facility provides students with a state-of-the-art building to learn and conduct research, as well as collaborate on projects with fellow students. At a cost of $14.3 million funded from donations, including a lead gift from Bayer CropScience, the project added more than 21,000 square feet of laboratory and office space while also renovating more than 2,400 square feet of interior and exterior space in the Plant and Soil Science Building, which houses the Department of Plant and Soil Science.
